Committing crimes
Crime is the heart of Realm of Rogues. With every successful attempt you earn silver and standing, and you get better at the trade.
Light and heavy crimes
You start small: cutting a purse at the fair, poaching a hare or robbing a pedlar. From the rank of Knight the heavy crimes open up, such as extorting toll money, raiding a weapons convoy or emptying a castle cellar. They pay much more, but the chance of success is lower.
Chance and experience
Every crime has a chance of success. Every attempt, successful or not, makes you better, until you reach your highest chance. If it fails, the watch may collar you and you spend a while in the dungeon, until another player breaks you out or you've served your time.
Waiting time and gold coins
After each attempt you have to wait a while. With gold coins you skip a waiting time or hire an advocate who pleads you free.
Espionage
Uncover the password of a toll collector, the seal of a money changer, the letters of an alderman or even the sheriff's archive. You pick from a list of words, and after each guess you see how many letters are in the right place. If you don't crack it within your attempts, you're unmasked.
Crack treasure chests
Turn the lock and listen: cold, lukewarm, warm, hot, and a click at the right number. From a barber's cash box to the treasure chest in a burial mound with five digits. Sometimes there are arrows or a gold coin inside too.
Odd jobs
Isolde, Master Aldric, Captain Brand, Grimbold, Brother Anselm and the Herald always have work. You choose a safe or a risky approach. Every successful job earns respect, and with more respect, tougher jobs that pay better open up.
Smuggling
If you want to go further, smuggle spices and drink between eleven provinces. Every province has its own prices: buy cheap, travel and sell dear. But whoever carries too much in their purse catches the eye of the toll guards.
